Giants vs Patriots Redux.
At the beginning of this football season I said the SUPERBOWL was going to be the Giants vs. the Ravens. No matter how bad the Giants played I held to that…the giants were going and I was going to prove everyone wrong. Turns out I was wrong….just not about the Giants.
I really thought the Ravens were gonna take the AFC this year, but that damn field goal!!!!!
But a rematch of SUPERBOWL 42 that’s also in Indy? That sounds freaking amazing
I have a question for ESPN. Why does every single woman on your channel look like a wash up cheerleader and have the personality of a wet rag?
You look at the guys on ESPN they’re loud, aggressive, gossip mongers (especially in the case of Skip Bayless) whose arguements are just as entertaining as bar brawls…the girls however, they’re the straight man in a good comedy. Everything funny is happening around them and they’re just sitting there, twirling their hair like some massive cliche.
Rachel Nichols…either speak up or go away…your sideline reports on Monday night football are pointless and are more useful as a bathroom break before the game starts. Even ESPN knows this as they continually cut your mic out.
Charissa Thompson what is your point on Numbers Never Lie? You introduce questions but really never anything else, I mean you literally don’t serve a purpose. It must be nice to get paid to just sit in front of a camera and look pretty.
I suppose I should look at the fact that women on ESPN is a step in a positive direction for my gender…but all they really are is a mouth piece delivering bits of information for others (men) to analyze.
Just because I can’t play the sport doesn’t mean I can’t analyze it.
As a Giants fan I’ve grown use to Antrel Rolle and his comments. For awhile he’s one-sided feud with Cris Colllinsworth was my favorite, but what he said Tuesday morning on WFAN-AM has now won.
“I don’t give a damn who we’re playing, man. That’s my take. I’ll take any opponent, any given day. That’s my attitude. If someone has a problem with it, oh well. But that’s how I am. That’s how I was raised. I don’t shy away from any opponent. My heart doesn’t pump any Kool-Aid, only blood. I’m ready for whenever, however, whatever, however it gets to me. I’m ready for it.”
I just imagine the viens on Rolle’s neck about to explode.
As I’ve been watching ESPN this week before the playoffs and the wild card weekend there seems to be a debate raging among analyst that has been showcased all season (that doesn’t concern Tim Tebow). The common belief is that defenses win football games, simply because turnovers and time of possession decide games. You need a defense that can create turnovers and hold the opposing offenses to 3 and outs, keeping them off the field.
But is this still true? You look at Green Bay this season and this whole idea that defenses win games seems wrong. Their defense has allowed more yards against them this year then their offenses has gained. Yet the seemingly Super Bowl bound Packers are 15 and 1. They have managed to have an amazing season with defense that is simply bad. The Patriots are another prime example. They are ranked 31st in defense in the AFC, so is their pass rush….yet this team has the no. 1 seed in the playoffs. As much as it kills me to say this (I am a Giants fan) this all seems due to Tom Brady and that offensive line.
So what does this all mean? Is it now, as long as you have a perfect Quarterback with a good offensive line the defense is no longer a factor? That could be a strong possible…but there was a warning this season against lazy/bad defenses and strong Quarterbacks.
It was the Colts.
The colts fell apart this season and their meltdown showed one thing: A great Quarterback can’t solely win games. While it seemed at the end of the season that the Colts offense had fallen apart all year without their leader, take another look at the start. Curtis Painter and the offensive line were able to score multiple touchdowns against defenses that are now in the playoffs. Had the defense stopped scoring dives during games when the Colts offense was on a roll the Colts record might actually be quite different.
It’s my belife the defense wins games simply because your Quaterback and your offense can’t be perfect every game. Also take a look at when other teams have beaten the Packers and the Patriots. Its when the defense has stepped up and shut down those offenses. Kansas City did it to the Packers, and the Giants did it to the Patriots.
I don’t think we’ll have to wait until the Superbowl to see this debate rage out of the field. It’ll happen next weekend in two NFC divisional Playoff games.
I grew up in a home where football was king. Saturdays and Sundays were spent around the televsion screaming curse words and violent threats at which ever team was supported. It was pretty normal, except my house was full of women surrounding the tv screaming obscenities and the men didn’t really watch football.
I learned everything I know about football from my mother and growing up all I wanted to do was coach football. Yeah I wanted to be the first female pro-football coach. It didn’t really work out that way though. I gave up on football when I was told girls didn’t know anything about football.
About a year and a half I redisovered my love of football and I have since become as big a fan as my mother. After much convincing on the part of friends and family I’ve deciced to start this blog. Its point is to be an outlet for my opinions about players, teams, and the game itself. It’s also a place for my theories about the game. I’ll probably offended people for what I say, especially considering how passionate football fans can be. I’ll try my best not to be biased but no promises.
Just know this isn’t a girls guide to football…

Chris Canty’s nickname should be Megatron. Or maybe Robocop.
Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards yesterday, and it reminded everyone of John 3:16, but let’s not forget Ben Roethlisberger threw for 289. And ...
